Guide to Canada Water

Canada Water enjoys all the visual benefits of the attractive waterways around which it is built but has the bonus of excellent transport links into the centre of the city, up to the north to Shoreditch and Islington as well as being only one stop to the offices of Canary Wharf. The area has a smart, contemporary feel with a stunning new library and cultural centre where you can meet other book lovers in the buzzing ground floor café or stroll up to the fiction on the top floor which opens up, like an inverted pyramid, for a relaxing contemporary study and workspace.

Despite the inner city location, the health conscious are well-served in this area, with beautiful, long stretches of the Thames Path open to cyclists and walkers, as well as Southwark Park with its boating lake, sporting facilities and art gallery. Take advantage of the river at Surrey Docks Watersports Centre where you can row, kayak, sail, powerboat and windsurf.

Conservationists will be fascinated by Russia Dock Woodland, an eco zone created by filling in most of the old docks but leaving a stream through the trees that can be crossed using one of the little bridges. And when you need to replenish the calories, try Leadbelly’s for beer and veggie roast or the English Thai fusion at the Blacksmiths Arms.
